Phil Pegg: Lead & Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Music Director, Composer, Music arranger.
Phil Pegg first got into music at a young age. He boast of having his first band at 5
years old and carry’s around a picture in his phone of his 4 piece band of toddlers “The
Wild Cats “. Pegg continued to display a passion for music and the arts taking guitar
lessons throughout his childhood from Marie Vierra the Aunt of RCA Recording Artist
Tavares Brothers. He continued studying the guitar through his teenage years and into
adult hood. He received a higher education as a Jazz Studies major at Howard
University in Washington D.C. where he studied improvisation with Arthur Dawkins and Fred Irby as well as Music Theory and composition. He also ventured into the drama department studying acting with acclaimed Director Vera Katz. While in D.C Phil began playing guitar for vocal sensation Phil Flowers. While performing with Flowers in the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia area Phil was introduced to many artist such as Milt Matthews, Evelyn King, Chuck Brown, Trouble Funk and producers Willie Lester and Rodney Brown. Phil had the honor of doing a recording session with trumpet legend Don Cherry and began recording his own compositions mixed by Joe Hall of The BlackByrds. In 1983 Pegg returned to New England to raise a family where he began freelancing as a lead guitarist and working with agency’s such as D&M entertainment, North East and Road Show Entertainment performing in hundreds of Venues throughout the years . He was a member of The Danze, Level II, and D.O.I. Music Arranging and Promotion where he had multiple roles as producer and sound engineer mixing on an Allen Heath 36 channel mixing Board and Tascam 80-8 reel to reel in the recording studio for the Planet Records Label. During a 20 year span with Myron Arnold Music Phil Pegg produced many masters from Local Adult contemporary, Rock, Funk, Christian, Gospel and Hip Hop Artist. He recorded demos for Irving Washington who later went on to capitol records in Los Angeles with the group “Portrait”. Throughout the 90’s Phil was lead guitarist for several successful bands such as The Clique, Vocalist Michelle Hill, Karen Colbert, George Cherry, and was founder and band leader of the group Spellbound which had a 12 year run and did gigs booked through Hans Jenny’s owner of the New England based agency Best Bands. Spellbound was disbanded by Phil after the death of his partner percussionist Kenny Pacheco. Shortly after Phil became lead guitarist for Gina Wesley and Dreamcatcher where he played for seven years in a rhythm section with drummer Abdul Marteen and Mibbit Threats, Dreamcatcher has opened up for Capitol /RCA Artist “Tavares”, Jive Records NSYNC vocalist Joey Fatone and has worked the N.E. Casino circuit before Gina ‘s move to Los Angeles.
Phil Peggs guitar Influences include guitarist Eddie Hazel , Jimi Hendrix, Michael Hampton. Ernie Isley , Phelps Catfish Collins, Earl Klugh , Carlos Santana and George Benson. His favorite live acts include George Clinton and P Funk, James Brown,
Sly Stone, Mandrill, Betty Davis, Earth Wind and Fire and the Ohio Players. Phil is excited about putting Legacy on the map and looks forward to recording with the band.
